Just received them....
By Claudio R. Gonzalez
Havent really had a chance to test, hence the 3 stars... but just to those curious...Unlike the XP400.... these DO NOT have the BT adaptor for Xbox360 wireless but cost $20 more than the older XP400I will update as i test them later!**update*so ive used them for about 5 hours...The sound is very good so far. I do kinda wish it would go a bit louder. its loud enough but could use a bit more. The reception was outstanding. No static/ popping. the headset never lost audio connection. I had a slight hiccup for like a mili second, but the connection never dropped. Really solid. Big Plus! The fit is pretty comfy. The headsets are a bit on the big side though. i wish i could make the headband a bit smaller by a notch or two. The leatherette earmuffs when you start to sweat a bit kinda forms a seal around the ear so it helps block out more noise.I did not get a chance to try the chat, but i connected the wire for a bit. The connection was solid too. I remember the old TB x41 had issues just moving the wires i would get popping noises, but i didnt encounter any so far. The headset is pretty solid. Wish it had the BT dongle included. If they are the same as the xp400, i may just return and get those since the bt alone is an extra $30.Turtle beach headsets have come along way from those RF ones that were horrible with the popping noises etc....Overall i like them. They just need a volume boost. I had them at max volume the whole time on my borderlands 2 session. Like i said, loud enough.. but im sure some people would like to be able to set it higher. Id say give them a shot. you may be impressed!I will give it a 4 star due to the lack of the BT dongle not being included. This should already be standard across the board now. Not like a bt dongle costs much to make.

High Hopes, and all fell short
By jz
After doing a few days of researching online and reading up about as many headsets for my Xbox i could find (and seeing multiple positive reviews here) i decided to give this a shot. After 4 days of ~6 hours/day of use I'm doing this review.First Impressions - Initial feel of the headset was pretty good, adjusters seem solid, mic stores out of the way when not in use, most of the buttons don't have a "cheap" feel to them. It looks nice even though it's branded with Call Of Duty all over it. But that's pretty much where all the good stuff ends.Fit - Immediately i noticed this headset is COMPLETELY out of size/shape compared to any other headset ive owned. The earmuffs are angled forward and do not sit comfortably, its held way too tight on my head to the point it becomes painful after 20 minutes of wearing it - squeezes really tight on the sides. The size adjustment is another thing that completely blows my mind, these are able to extend so far up you could literally wear a winter toque on your head and still have wiggle room with these headphones on. Its HEAVY, and i wear hard hats and headgear at work all the time.. if your coming from your typical wired headset you will be surprised at how after a while these actually hurt your head, just the headphones alone without being plugged in to charge i would compare it to the weight of a full big can of Arizona Iced Tea. Balance that on your head after a couple hour gaming sessions and its pretty painful. Understand that all new headsets will have a break-in period but I don't see this one loosening up enough that it wont hurt me. The earcups get really hot after long gaming sessions, this headset is noise cancelling as in i can't hear what my girlfriend is saying while she is sitting 2 feet from me and i'm playing, this bothers me because i won't hear the phone ring, or the doorbell if im using these. Now i've been gaming/using a computer with headsets from steel/seinheiser/plantronics/etc for going on 10 years, my head isn't small or huge, i'd say i have a pretty generic head shape when it comes to most people. I've never had issues with headsets fitting the way this one does just put it that way, and after 20 minutes of use I know that I won't be able to continue wearing it.Connection - Didn't really have any problems as far as connectivity, had to re-pair it out of the box but what wireless device doesn't need to from time to time. I had a couple few second periods where it was staticy but it lasted at most 3 seconds. The headset recevier sitting on top of my xbox and about 2 inches from my Wireless router, i intentionally put it there to give it as much interference as possible but so far so good, i can move 10-15 feet away from the xbox and still get a good signal without missing anything, any further and it starts dropping in and out. After i was satisfied it wasn't having connection problems I moved the receiver a few shelves above my xbox and made sure its away from anything else electronic.Sound quality - This is the first Turtle Beach product i've owned so I don't have a completely accurate baseline of what these should be sounding like, BUT... i'm definitely not happy. Connected via optical out on my Xbox, Full HD settings, 5.1 surround out on my settings etc, first thing i played was Black Ops II with all audio set to stock - Sounds ok, tried all the "Treyarch Mix" settings, played around for 45 mins adjusting all the settings i possibly could and this thing failed.. HARD. There was a previous review on here that talked about this thing not being loud enough - completely accurate, on full volume (headset has individual volume controls for microphone loopback and master sound) for any HD tv shows and movies i watched, it wasn't loud enough. In a quiet room with no white noise around you its ok, but throw in people talking or a dishwasher running and you'll realize this headset doesn't go loud enough. Playing Xbox games is a little different as most games you can overdrive the volume settings to make it louder, but i was watching Netflix and Windows Media Center and the volume control just wasn't what i think it should be. I'm not hard at hearing, and i definitely know what good sound is.All the settings for surround sound angles and all the other ridiculous adjustments you can make on these are completely useless. 9/10 people won't be able to distinguish the surround adjustments and the other 1/10 won't care(i played every game with all surround settings off). Once i had it adjusted to what was the optimum these things were gonna get and playing a few hours at those settings, it made me wanna go back to my old headset. High's weren't crisp enough, imagine your walking through a field of crickets in a game, my Steelseries headset was sharp, you could actually make out the crickets, this one its "washed" out, sounds muffled, you pick up a little more of whats going on around you, but I don't know if that is the actual headphones or the fact that it's coming out of the Optical connection. Either way, it just doesn't sound right. Low Bass is lacking too but i suspect thats due to the fact it's wireless and if it had to push more power to drive the lows that battery life would suffer. Another thing that drove me completely insane was the voice controls, no matter what i adjusted or did i couldn't find the proper balance between game volume and party chat. If i had it set to hear the game good then the voices were BLARING loud and hurting my ears i wanted to whip the headset against the wall. I tried in game adjustments, xbox dashboard adjustments, but no matter what if i had one good the other one sounded terrible.Microphone - Again not impressed, I didn't tell anyone on Xbox i picked up a new headset, but within the first 15 minutes I had people telling me my mic was popping and making weird noises, never had any problems prior to this, and i'm telling you right now my girlfriend sucked up the cord on my old headset with the vacuum cleaner more then once and i've never had complaints about my other mic's. Over 2 days of gaming there were 5 separate times i had to unplug/replug the mic cord due to complaints. Which brings me to the next problem - NO WIRELESS RECEIVER FOR XBOX CONTROLLER. Seriously Turtlebeach what were you thinking here?? over 200$ for this headset and you expect people to spend another 25$ for the controller dongle? For people that don't know, unless your using a single ear wireless mic you HAVE to have whatever mic your using plugged into your xbox controller and your headset, thats just the way the xbox is designed. Other headsets from TB come with a little puck thats a little smaller then a 9v battery and you just plug it in to your controller, its convenient and out of the way. But instead on this WIRELESS headset they still ship with a cord you have to plug into your controller. Completely defeats the purpose of having it wireless in my opinion. And trust me it's not worth spending another 25-30$ (total cost over 250$) for this headset when you can get the XP's for even cheaper. Also the patch cord from the headset to the controller has a volume adjustment knob and mute switch on it, both feel really poor in terms of movement compared to the rest of the headset (that mic mute button will be broken in a few months if use it lots). And for whatever reason i couldn't adjust the chat voice using the wheel, it worked when i first plugged it in for one game and then nothing after, even turning the xbox off didn't do anything so i don't know whats up there.Overall - A good idea but fell short in pretty much every catagory.. I don't know if it was rushed to come out with Black Ops or what but just too much hassle to operate/wear. I'm gonna be returning it and maybe giving another Turtle product a chance and see what happens, but paying over 200$ for these i was expecting a LOT more.Pros - Looks PrettyCons - Heavy, fit/adjustment issues, mic problems, sounds were off, Not loud enough, NO WIRELESS CONTROLLER DONGLE!!!Also theres next to nothing in the box as far as manuals go, they give you this awful "get your toes wet" guide thats pretty much in every language but english. I'm not saying you need an encyclopedia in there, but at least give some guidelines on what the buttons are for, how you should be charging it (is it ok to leave it plugged in all the time, am i better off letting the battery run completely down before i charge? etc.) 95% of stuff I buy i can figure out and get working pretty quick, this is just overly complicated and totally prone to failure down the road. I'm a mechanical engineer by trade so i know when something doesn't look like it will last. Also if you got kids running around or are clumsy with your stuff, don't expect this headset to last very long.. Not too much said on the battery, what its ratings are, how many approx charge cycles you would get out of it, doesn't look like its replaceable either. This was supposed to be an upgrade to my Steelseries spectrum's that were less then a year old and worked great but I was getting sick of tripping over the wires constantly, however, any audiophile out there will tell you wireless will NOT in its current state be anywhere near the solidity and great sound of a wired connection. I would consider trying out a few different wireless headsets, i'm sure i will end up going back to wired but time will tell.*UPDATE*So after a full 7 days of using these i'm gonna give it an even WORSE rating.Alot more popping and cracking/interference during the week, i should also add i live out in the country so i'm away from all urban signal interference and stuff like that, these could very well have huge problems if your living in an apartment etc.another HUGE problem, i was playing Black Ops 2 all week, had multiple online games where the in-game volume was going up and down on its own, party chat voice was consistant but ingame was almost inaudible at times and that was with the headset turned all the way up. Completely unacceptable, i understand every new thing is gonna have its problems, but these aren't headphones you can just plug in and upgrade, so if your stuck with a problem headset chances are its gonna stay that way. these are getting returned tomorrow and im probably gonna pick up some Astra A50's.For now i would strongly urge anyone considering these to either wait and see if they come out with an updated version or something because these are a JOKE. Also if possible try them on before you buy them, cause i know the generic headshape manufacturers use for headsets was thrown out the window with this, its like they made it for a Conehead. And the on/off button couldn't possibly be in a worse spot, its right behind the boom for the microphone, so if you have the mic tucked up and out of the way, you have to move it almost all the way back down to turn these on/off.For my first almost 250$ turtle beach product i was seriously let down, not cool.
